Abstract

Thermodynamic stabilization by two β‐silyl substituents and essentially nonnucleophilic reaction conditions are prerequisites for the preparation of the first structurally well‐characterized vinyl cation 1 (see structure). The occurrence of β‐SiC hyperconjugation in 1 is indicated by unusually long SiCβ bonds.
