Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in the Dimuon Final State in Proton-Proton Collisions at a Center-of-Mass Energy of 13 TeV With the CMS Detector

Creative Commons 'BY-NC-SA' version 4.0 license
Abstract

This dissertation presents a search for the 125 GeV Standard Model Higgs boson in the opposite-sign dimuon decay channel. The search is performed in 35.92 fb^{−1} of proton- proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. Results are found by combining several topological categories.

The resulting 95% confidence level upper limit on σ/σSM H→ μ+μ− is 2.41 × SM expected and 2.79 × SM observed.
