The Empowering Sustainability International Journal (ESIJ) is part of the Empowering Sustainability initiative at the University of California, Irvine. This initiative is dedicated to 1) connecting sustainability leaders across generations, countries, and disciplines through the exchange of ideas and experiences related to all aspects of sustainability; and 2) fostering engagement and research on the ground through the collaboration among fellows and like-minded organizations worldwide.

The journal welcomes papers from practitioners and scholars who strive to establish connections between theory and practice, scholarship and on-the-ground action. The journal's editorial board is composed of both practitioners and academics of a variety of fields from around the world.
